France’s Finance Minister, Bruno Le Maire, is hopeful that Tesla will make substantial investments in the country. France’s Digital Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, has expressed a strong desire for France to be chosen as the location for Tesla’s next Gigafactory. The French government aims to convince Tesla that France is the ideal place in Europe for establishing a new factory, highlighting their investment in the electric battery sector. Meanwhile, recent discussions between Elon Musk and France’s President, Emmanuel Macron, did not specifically address Tesla’s investment plans in France.
At present, Tesla is focused on ramping up production at its Gigafactory Berlin to cater to European deliveries. Giga Berlin has shown interest in expanding its workforce by adding 180 apprentices at the factory. While talks of another Gigafactory for Europe are circulating, there have been reports of Tesla negotiating the construction of a new €4.5 billion ($4.8 billion) Gigafactory in Valencia, Spain. The situation regarding Tesla’s potential investments in France, including battery cell production, remains open and under consideration.
