Tesla has announced that the entry-level Tesla Model Y Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) is now available in South Korea. The electric vehicle will be imported from Gigafactory Shanghai. The news was shared through social media, with the official Tesla Korea Twitter account posting a video showcasing the all-electric crossover and featuring Gigafactory Shanghai and the Shanghai Port.
According to Tesla Korea’s official website, the estimated delivery date for the Model Y RWD is currently set for August to September 2023, with the possibility of changes depending on circumstances. The other variants of the Model Y, including the Model Y Long Range Dual Motor AWD and the Model Y Performance, are listed as “available in 2024.”
The Model Y RWD is priced at ₩56,990,000 (approximately $45,100) in South Korea. While this price represents a premium compared to its cost in China (¥263,900 or around $37,000 before options), it is relatively close to the starting price of the most affordable Model Y variant in the United States, which is currently priced at $47,740 before options. It’s worth noting that the US variant features a dual motor setup and 4680 battery cells.
Overall, Tesla’s introduction of the Model Y RWD in South Korea expands the availability of this popular electric crossover and offers customers another option in the local market.
