雖然目前幾乎所有其他汽車製造商都專注於電池電動汽車，但TOYOTA的新上任CEO佐藤恆治則認為氫能將成為日本品牌的未來支柱。
氫能為碳中和的一個前進方向，而佐藤恆治於近日的採訪當中表達了即使他加大關注了電動汽車的進展，但在碳中和的戰略之中氫能發展仍為重點。佐藤表示「我們希望確保氫能仍為一個可行的選項。我們需要一個生產和運輸供應鏈。除非我們看到這方面的進步，否則便無法期待這種能源使用量的增加。」
以台灣而言，Toyota的總代理和泰汽車於3月20日宣布將和國內的氣體公司聯華林德合作，要將TOYOTA目前的唯一的氫能產品Mirai以專案方式引進至台灣，最快於2024年開始試營運。自2015年於美國上市後發展至今已是第二代，終於台灣將引進。
目前在國內市場已有經引進純電車、插電式油電車與油電車。和泰汽車在節能減碳的計畫持續進行，配合政府2022年所公布的臺灣2050淨零排放路徑及策略下而引進這輛以日文讀音「未來」作為命名的Mirai燃料電池車(FCEV)便是要在這條路上的未來更進一步的證明。
